Supply, Chain & Logistics: "The recent legislative changes about road transports significantly alternate the market. How does your transport company view the future of both your business in particular and the future of the road freight forwarding overall? What are your goals and objectives?"

F. Giannopoulou: "Transportation business in Greece has gone through many changes in recent years. In a brief review of the past few years, we observe that in 2008 transportation in Greece was expensive, mainly because of the excessive and constant rise of the fuel price. Although the years that followed the value of transportation decreased significantly, mainly due to the economic crisis, the cost of transport has increased mainly due to the steadily rising fuel price.

At the same time, transport business has experienced significant decline over the past two years and is expected to continue with the same pattern. Alongside this decline, it has also been expected a ‘clearance’ in the transport business along with a lower level of activation in this field ; expectations that meet the real needs of the current market.

This will - without doubt - happen within the current year and the companies which will inevitable lead in our business will be the ones that have remained flexible and adjustable to the new market status and have set proper infrastructure and liquidity. These are all essential assets for a steady business course in such a volatile and unstable environment..

OMONIA TRANS, as it applies a very strict and disciplinary plan within this framework, will have a steady upward course in 2011. It will gain greater market share and support fully partnerships that require high quality services provision, regardless of the current economic context or legislative changes that disrupt the business environment."
